We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer with a profound understanding of mechanical design principles to join our sensor development team in Leuven, Belgium. The selected candidate will contribute to the development of our cutting-edge sensor devices and accessories.

Core responsibilities

  • Your primary responsibility will be to provide creative designs and mechanical integration of our sensors and accessories into our robotic systems. In order to realize our objectives, we expect you to:
  • collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers and robotics specialists, to comprehend application requirements and tailor the designs accordingly
  • take the lead in designing mechanical components for advanced sensors and accessories, factoring in precision, appropriate material selection, and environmental resilience from initial prototypes to thoroughly analyzed and tested components ready for production
  • consider the customer’s perspective for designing intuitive and user-friendly accessories
  • oversee the communication and interaction with manufacturers and suppliers
  • maintain detailed documentation throughout the project to present to all stakeholders
  • support integration and test, evaluate test results, investigate discrepancies, provide technical assessment of anomalies, and drive issues to resolution

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Must be authorized to work in Belgium (EU citizens, BE permanent residents, etc)
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design and development, specializing in sensor deployment and sensor integration into mechanical systems, preferably in industrial products
  • Lead the system-level mechanical design and integration of diverse components for seamless functionality and performance enhancement in our mechanical engineering projects
  • Proficient in CAD software for 3D modeling and design (e.g. Autodesk Fusion, SolidWorks), with hands-on experience utilizing 3D printers
  • Collaborate with electrical and firmware engineers to synchronize and integrate electrical components into the whole mechanical system design
  • Ensure that the designed components are simple to assemble and manufacture using standard techniques (e.g. CNC machining, injection molding, 3D printing, and sheet metal fabrication)
  • Manage material selection and oversee post-processing activities of designed parts
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural and thermal analysis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Preferred

  • Experience in designing and integrating industrial automation and motion control systems
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
  • Awareness of the influence and implications of material selection on our sensor’s performance
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations concerning sensors in industrial products
