About the Role
Our software team is growing and we are looking for a talented engineer/architect to join our agile, world-class team. In this role you will design safety systems to ensure that humanoid robots can operate safely in the dynamic world around it. You will work closely with the functional safety, hardware abstraction, firmware, and other autonomy teams to architect, design, and implement safety systems. You will also be responsible for designing systems and coordinating technical projects with external partners developing safety components.
This is a remote-friendly role with a preference for candidates located near one of our offices in Pittsburgh, Salem or San Francisco Bay Area for in-person collaboration, meetings, and events.
About the Work
- Architect, design, and integrate Safety components to create a safe humanoid robot
- Coordinate with external partners to implement components of the system
- Collaborate with the functional safety and systems engineering teams to develop and refine requirements and verification/validation tests for the safety system
- Drive rigorous safety software development practices required for functional safety certification
About You
- MS or Ph.D. in robotics, computer science, or related field or have equivalent industry experience
- Experience architecting and developing safe robotics systems
- Experience collaborating with functional safety teams
- Experience coordinating the technical output of external partners
- Experience developing safety critical systems
- Experience with embedded systems
- Strong software experience in modern C++ and Python
- Exposure to standard agile and software development processes (issue tracking tools (Jira), feature branching, version control (Git), continuous integration and deployment)
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively both orally and in writing with other team members
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Authorization to work in the USA
Bonus Points
- Experience working with humanoid (or similar) robots
- Publications in your field (RSS, ICRA, IROS preferred)
- Familiarity with applicable safety and compliance standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 62061, IEC 61508, and ANSI R15.08
- Experience with safety systems based on Fail-Safe over EtherCAT (FSoE), or other black-channel safety protocols
- Experience developing safety code with MISRA C
