Mechatronics Intern
Agility Robotics
Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people’s lives more fulfilling.
About the Team
Agility Robotics is developing a small team focused on product-driven R&D projects to explore new mechatronic ideas for our advanced bipedal multi-purpose robot platform, Digit. The team works closely with senior leadership, including the CTO and Chief Robot Officer, who have extensive experience in robot development.
This Innovation group operates independently from the main engineering team, allowing us to concentrate on future versions of our Digit robots and cutting-edge innovation.
About The Internship
As a Mechatronics Intern, you will assist experienced roboticists in designing and creating proof-of-concept electromechanical subsystems for Digit. You will have the opportunity to participate in experiments with new hardware. You will collaborate with the innovation team on initial analysis, design hardware in CREO, and help bring prototypes to life for testing. Depending on your skillset, you may also assist with circuit design, wiring, and embedded software tasks. You will work alongside engineers from various teams, learning from their expertise as needed for each project.
About The Work
- Assist in designing prototype components, subsystems, and proofs-of-concept for technologies relevant to Digit (e.g., actuator design, transmission, arm/gripper prototypes, leg/foot prototypes).
- Help in developing requirements and concepts with team members from different disciplines (electrical, mechanical, software).
- Contribute to creating subsystem CAD designs.
- Perform basic engineering calculations to support design choices.
- Assist with test protocol development for subsystems.
- Participate in conducting tests to measure the performance of prototype systems.
- Support the team with component sourcing.
- Assist in documenting design work using Jira and Confluence.
- Deliver quality work within defined schedules and priorities.
About You
You are passionate about designing and building mechanical systems, you communicate well, and you enjoy being part of a talented team. You are a creative student engineer with a passion for robotics, dynamics, and things that move. You have demonstrated your abilities through personal projects and are eager to learn more.
- Highly motivated and a team player.
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong interest in electromechanical system design (mechanisms, actuators, sensor integration).
- Experience with fabrication and a portfolio of personal projects (e.g., robotics projects, club competitions).
- Familiarity with mechanical CAD software (PTC Creo preferred).
- Basic understanding of PCB prototyping and embedded software concepts.
- Eager to learn about test design and implementation.
