Staff Electrical Engineer
Agility Robotics
Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people’s lives more fulfilling.
About The Role
We are currently designing the next generation of Digit in order to address customer needs at commercial scale. Engineers in this role help drive the robot architecture, as well as design and develop robust and reliable electronics for this robot generation. You will collaborate with a multi- discipline team of engineers to understand the unique requirements for our products and play a key role in ensuring that we have robot designs that are robust and production-ready. This position can be based either within commuting distance of our Salem, OR headquarters or remotely on the West Coast, with a preference for candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area. For remote candidates, regular travel to Salem, typically 1-2 weeks per month, will be required.
About The Work
• Act as an electrical engineering architect and lead major subsystem design
• Own architecture, design, implementation, testing, and commercialization for relevant hardware subsystems.
• Drive engineering specifications from product requirements and work cross functionally to align engineering specifications with multiple domains (electrical, mechanical, industrial
design, software, test, manufacturing etc.)
• Lead cross-functional design reviews
• Rapid prototyping of electrical systems at both system and board levels
• Perform board bring-up activities including embedded firmware development and circuit validation
• Interface with internal and external manufacturing teams to enhance design for test, manufacturing, and assembly, and create and execute test plans for intermediate and final products, including test fixture design and software development
• Participate in the debugging and root cause analysis related to hardware and software defect resolution
About You
• 10 or more years of electrical design experience with 2 or more years of robotics experience
• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent, minimum requirement)
• Experience in embedded controls, high-speed differential signaling, microcontrollers, memory buses, digital design, and power electronics
• Experience with testing and system integration
• Excellent track record of designing PCBAs with excellent manufacturing test capabilities
• Excellent understanding of PCB layout and design techniques for EMC compliance
• Skilled in conflict resolution and team development
• Ability to be on-site at Agility’s design facility as needed (minimum 4 days per month and as needed to support design activities, reviews, prototype testing, etc.)
• Experience with motors and motor control, especially using BLDC motors
• PLM and PDM experience
Preferred to have
• Advanced degree with robotics experience
• Altium and Zuken E3 experience
• Understanding of structured product development (requirements-driven engineering, documentation, rigorous verification, etc.)
• Jira/Confluence experience
• Engineering verification test development and execution
• Experience with PCI ExpressR, USB, Ethernet, EtherCAT, and other high-speed differential interconnects
